5 Ways To Improve Your Local Search Marketing

Many small businesses question whether investing in local search marketing will be beneficial to their business.  The answer is a big YES.  Coming up with a strong local search marketing strategy will help improve the odds of increasing business for your company.  Not all local online marketing tools are made equal for all businesses, so to help you out here are 5 ways to help improve your local search marketing.
  1. Building a Facebook page for your business will help improve the age old 'word of mouth' marketing technique for your business.  Facebook is a great place for local customers to meet and talk about their experience at your establishment.  Also, facebook offers a cheap Pay Per Ads (PPC) and you can really hone in on your potential customers via demographics, age, geographic.
  2. Start a blog on your website.  Fresh content for your website is very important to search engines like Google. Write evergreen, helpful, educational content that others can find useful and that they will share. This will help with building links to your site.
  3. Optimize your website with Google Maps. Get your business listing registered and confirmed on Google maps. This is a bit of a pain, because in order to claim you listing you need to wait for a postcard with a pin # from Google. But once you get it, embed the Google map with your exact location onto your website.
  4.  More and more people are using smart phones to look up places on Google. If you don't have time, nor do you want to invest in any other type of local strategy, you can invest in Google Adwords Express. This is a Pay Per Click (PPC) campaign, but gets your local business to show up on Google maps. You'll get a blue pin to show your location and you'll get prime spot on the list. BUT once you stop paying, you lose your spot, until you pay again.
  5. Get some video. 80% of internet users recall watching a video ad on a website like YouTube and 46% of those users took some sort of action. This is huge. Video content, like a blog, can be educational, helpful, product reviews, how-tos...and it doesn't have to be production studio quality. Many smartphones can film a great 90 second video. Editing the video to take out mistakes can be a bit harder. When the video is done, upload to Youtube, add a great title, tags (Video Marketing SEO) and embed the video on your website for strong SEO results.
